Fossilized Tree Sections

Back >>

Originating from the Far East these fascinating Fossils have been forming over thousand of years.  Many varieties of trees that were possibly buried by a process whereby the organic material is replaced with minerals to form a stony replica.  Some theories suggest that fossils of this nature may also have been created at the time of a great flood.  Since they can be found high up in mountains along with fossilized Corals, this may well be true.

Currently the fossils are being retrieved from two different sources.  They can be found exposed at the side of riverbeds, and farmers preparing the land owners of the land sell them on to an intermediary who then cleans up the fossils and crafts them as necessary to highlight their natural beauty.

The fossils are only acquired as and when they surface.  As such, there are no local environmental impact issues.  In fact, income is obtained by people who may otherwise be engaged in activities that do raise environmental issues.

This is a highly decorative and naturally occurring stone product suitable for garden, indoor or water feature decoration.  The basic product is from trees that have fossilized over many years.  Sizes range from tens to hundreds of kilograms.

The natural beauty of the product is within its shape, colouring, detail and retained natural look.  Every piece within a consignment is individually selected, cleaned up and crafted to highlight its natural beauty.

Pieces that are nicely coloured are smoothed to highlight this, whereas pieces that have very nice preserved bark undergo less smoothing, to preserve the natural look.

No deliberate attempt is made to craft a base onto all pieces.  Though some pieces will stand naturally, some pieces look better laid down and some provide a natural position for setting in soft ground.  this product will command the customer's attention.  An exclusive purchase that provides an excellent conversation piece, whatever its location.
