Estimating How Much You Need

The volume calculator provides an estimate of the amount of product needed for your project. The quantities suggested are intended as a guide and can be affected by the type and size of the product. Begin by choosing your product; gravel, sand, bark or soil.

Next, consider the depth you enter into the volume calculator as it depends on the intended purpose of your project. For example, garden borders and features don’t need laying as deep as areas that will be walked or driven on. However, it is possible to lay a driveway too deep, making it harder to drive on. As a general rule of thumb, borders should be around 3-4cm and drives and paths at approx 5cm. It’s always easier to order some additional aggregates if you under estimate, rather than ordering too much as the cost for you returning any surplus materials could be expensive.

To make things easier for you estimating the amount of aggregates required, there are 4 different shapes to choose from. The volume calculator can estimate areas that are rectangles, triangles, circles and semi-circles. If the area you want to cover isn’t one of these exact shapes, you can still get an estimate by combining one or more shapes to cover your area.
